LIU HUI

Liu Hui (c. 225 - c. 295) was a Chinese mathematician during the tumultuous Warring States Period. During it, he approximated the area of a circle using a 96-gon, a similar approximation to the rectangle method which we use today. His approximations would foreshadow integration, which is essentially approximation of area with arbitrarily small iterations.
